Article summary

6.1 Timber fences and batten screens are similar to the above elements – they need suitable restraint across the face of the board and supports at close enough centres to resist warping/bowing.

6.2 Timber strip flooring or cladding inside or outside will not be installed unless all sides and faces of the timber contain moisture content between 10-13% or unless expert advice is obtained from Timber Queensland. 1 in 3 members will be tested as a minimum prior to installation to achieve the 10-13% across all timber pieces.

6.3 Cladding and flooring must be installed to manufacturer’s installation specifications. This will include details of window and penetration flashing details, sarking and fixing methods.

6.4 All timber sections should have cupping shrinkage control built into the section – in the form of saw cuts/grooves to the BACK of the timber. This provides space for the timber to shrink into, which make the timber cup towards the cuts on the back.

6.5 All timber profiles should be designed to shed water off of the profile.
