Article summary

7.1 Villa board installed on bath installations will finish on the inside of the bath nib – see photo to the below.

7.2 The villa board will have a maximum gap of 3mm between the bath and edge of the villa board. No holes or gaps are permitted.

7.3 The junction of the bath and villa board edge will be sealed prior to tiling.

7.4 The tile junction and bath edge will be sealed while the bath is half full of water to prevent future separation of this seal when the bath is loaded.

7.5 Release of this water also provides an opportunity to test the bath waste for leaks.

7.6 Acrylic baths must be PROPERLY supported to the entire base of the bath - firmly dry packed with a bedding (sand and cement) mix. The bath should be ¼ full of water during the bedding to keep the bath DOWN while the bedding is packed under it – otherwise the bath may lift during the process. Some pressed metal baths do not require support. Spa baths may be provided with a metal support frame. FOAM A FILL is NOT an acceptable bedding material.

7.7 Self-supporting baths must be packed accordingly with non-compressible packers glued in place

7.8 Above – bedded around the bath then foam a fill to the centre – a sackable offence

7.9 Bath defects;

7.9.1 Preformed acrylic baths are NOT perfect and may have a very low tolerance meaning they may arrive warped, bowed etc.

7.9.2 Preformed acrylic baths may be affected by heat when stored in containers or similar.
