Grout Depth Checking

To verify the grout has been installed full depth the following methodology is adopted.

Check with the engineer but typically waiting 7 days for the grout to harden before completing this work

We initially drilled test holes using a 12mm drill bit through the grout at randomly selected locations (we walked the site with a Hutchies site person and told them where to drill a hole). If the grout was of good quality the drilling process was smooth. If there was a void in the grout the drilling process punched through the void, it was very obvious to the driller and the observer if a void was encountered. To verify the visual observation a steel wire was used to test the side the drill hole to determine the quality of the grout.
When a void was found we did another test hole 200mm either side of the grout to test the quality of the grout. One each occasion on Chester the additional testing found the grout quality was OK.
We then checked the design to identify the highly stressed wall panels and target tested the grout under those panels using the above method. These additional tests found the grout was satisfactory.
