5. Roofing Material Selection

5.1 Ensure the roof materials are suitable for application. It should be robust enough for the expected / intended traffic. The thicker the roof sheets (BMT - base metal thickness) the more robust generally and the Corrugated profile roofs are not very robust, trim deck is moderately robust and Kliplok roofing is very robust. Roof sheeting with a BMT less than 0.42mm prior to painting is not permitted for use under any circumstances. Ensure the sheeting contains the correct marking or documentation.
5.2 Roofing/walling within 1000m of a marine/harsh/heavy industrial environment is to be as required by the manufacturer (see chart below). ALWAYS check with the manufacturer and request a specification and draft warranty before the work commences.
5.3 Review the policy for steel protection for further details.
• 0 to 100m of a surf beach – Colorbond stainless steel
• 100 to 200m of a surf beach – Colorbond ultra
• 200m or further of a surf beach – Colorbond
• 400m or further of a surf beach – Colorbond Zincalume
• 0 to 100m of a calm saltwater– Colorbond ultra
• 100m or further of calm saltwater- Colorbond
• 200m or further of calm saltwater- Colorbond Zincalume
• 0 to 500m of saltwater - Colorbond stainless steel
• 500 to 1000m of saltwater – Colorbond Ultra
• 1000m or further of saltwater – Colorbond or Colorbond Zincalume
